WEIGHT WARS.... to be curvy or not!!
My question to my curvy cuties is how happy are you with who your are? Are you happy with your curves or are you preparing to transition into that skinny chick? What is your view on women like Monique, Star Jones and Rickey Lake; who traded their curves for a much slimmer frame? Do you believe that there is a such thing as losing too much weight? When you diet and exercise do you pay attention to the changes that happen to you other than your waist getting smaller? I know that I have dieted several times and I am still changing my habits and exercising. However, more than any thing, I pay close attention to my body. I don't want to look sick or be unnoticeable. I love the fullness in my face and I don't want to lose that. I would really like for my curvy cuties to chime in and tell me what you think. I admire Monique, Ricky and Star, who did it for health reasons. I am a size 20, 50 lbs down so far, and my goal is to have the best body for my frame to be deemed healthy. Being curvy and vibrant and happy at your size is one thing, but if you are on blood pressure medication, have diabetes, heart disease, or other health issues that come along with having a high BMI, then the vanity has to go out of the window. It becomes a huge issue. No matter what your size is you should love yourself but if your health is threatened then you need to make a change. I don't think it was her goal to be a "skinny" woman but to be healthy and it took her getting to that size to be deemed healthy. I commend her for it.
ReplyDeleteI totally appreciate what you are saying and I applaud you taking control of your health issues. However, I must say that I don't agree with you saying that the movement overlooks the facts. For me, my desire is to empower and encourage women to first and foremost love themselves in spite of their situation. I know all too well what being fat can cause health wise and I encourage women to go from phat to phit. I initially started my health journey because I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The more information I got the more I realized that I needed to do better when I could. Once I started my healthy routine, I saw a huge difference in things that I didn't even know my weight or lack of exercise played a part in, like my menstrual cycle. However, I also begin to see more of my neck and my cheeks were not as rosy, that I didn't like. Honestly, I am a bit conceded. So, when I begin to see a change that I didn't like I slowed down. I make it a habit of stating the fact that being slim doesn't mean that you are healthy, it just means that you are slim. I know plenty of women who are Monique curvy that are far healthier than women that are Beyonce curvy. The fact is people have to find what makes them happy and healthy. For me being Beyonce curvy would not make me happy but if that brings joy to another than great.

ReplyDeleteYup I agree wholeheartedly and I am happy to hear you are better! Everyone's phit is different just like everyone's phat is different. Height, weight, measurements, all of that plays into it. There are people out there who are still battling demons because they did not learn to love themselves before they started losing weight which is an indicator that they changed to see themselves in a different light. I'm speaking to those who changed for health. With that picture Monique is claiming the weight of 213 which doesn't seem to match especially since she was 233 on her show and it looks like she lost a lot more than 10 lbs. I think she is afraid of how others will view her and hate her for her change. I love my curves and have always been curvy since I was younger with my flat stomach and thick thighs and I was cuuuuute!!! LOL and I still am cute but I know that I am unhealthy and will get my body to the healthy state it needs to be in not to be skinny but to be free from any ailments that I am predisposed to. I don't know what size that is, but if I get down to a 16 and I am still in danger, then I need to keep going. That's all I'm saying. Everybody's body is different. It may require some people to lose more than others.....Love you Maui!!!!
